Many men and women find themselves unhappy with the ears they were naturally given. Unfortunately, there’s not much you can do to fix them on your own. If you’ve grown your hair out or avoided photos from certain angles because of your ears, it might be time to consider enlisting the help of surgery at LPS. Our board-certified surgeons work with each patient individually to create a custom treatment plan tailored to their specific goals.

While it’s important to remember ears are naturally slightly different in size and shape, there are ways to fix ears that are significantly uneven. Otoplasty, or ear pinning procedures, can be done to one or both ears depending on your individual needs.

Otoplasty Boston

What is Otoplasty?

Otoplasty is a surgical method used to resize or reshape the ears in hopes to restore optimal facial contours. The procedure can also bring the ears closer to the head making them less prominent. Otoplasty is generally a once in a lifetime procedure because it produces long-term results that won’t diminish with time.

What Will My Treatment Be Like?

This is typically a fairly quick and easy procedure. Most otoplasties are done in our state-of-the-art, fully accredited surgical suites on an outpatient basis. General anesthesia or twilight sedation may be enlisted to keep you comfortable throughout. An otoplasty that consists of both ears typically takes about two hours.

After a short observation period, you’ll be able to go home for recovery. Downtime is minimal with ear pinning surgery. Most patients are able to return to non-strenuous activities in just 5-7 days.

What Results Can I Expect?

Most patients see immediate results after ear pinning surgery. Side effects are typically mild, however, some post-surgical swelling may mask the final outcome of your procedure. An optimal outcome can be seen in about 2-weeks. It can take upwards of 6-months for your new ears to fully settle into their new position.

Am I A Candidate for Otoplasty?

Almost anyone who is bothered by the shape, size, or projection of their ears can benefit from otoplasty. However, the best candidates are non-smokers who are in good general health. You should have realistic expectations about what an otoplasty can do for you. While the procedure can produce significant results, you should understand that perfectly symmetrical ears are not always achievable. The best way to determine your candidacy for otoplasty is through an in-person consultation with one of our skilled surgeons.
