Have Your Current Implants Declined in Appearance with Time?

LPS Specializes in Functional & Aesthetic Breast Implant Removal & Replacement!

Breast implants don’t last forever. While many women choose to have their implants removed (or replaced) for aesthetic reasons, there are some functional problems that can also occur as implants near the end of their shelf-life. The breast enhancement specialists and board-certified surgeons at Longwood Plastic Surgery have successfully helped countless women safely achieve optimal outcomes with implant removal, with or without replacement and/or breast lift (mastopexy).

How Does Breast Implant Removal Work?

Breast implant removal may be performed due to capsular contracture or discovered silent rupture. In cases where patients seek out removal for aesthetic purposes, your surgeon will speak with you about your concerns and goals before going over your options for removal or replacement. Some women choose to have implants taken out in as little as 5-10 years, while others might be happy with their implants for 20+ years.

Implant removal is a highly customized procedure. You can opt to have your implants solely removed or replaced in a single procedure. Thanks to the latest surgical techniques and improved implant quality over the years, women can achieve fuller breasts with more natural-looking outcomes. Breast shape can most often be improved during the same procedure.

Am I a Good Candidate for Implant Removal?

If you’re no longer happy with the appearance of your current implants, removal or replacement may be worth considering. Over time, saline implants that have been placed above the muscle can sometimes shift or ripple leaving you with less than desirable contours. Silicone implants have recently become more natural with a teardrop shape allowing for improved look and feel to the breasts.
Breast implant removal may be necessary, especially if an implant is ruptured, defective, or if there is associated capsular contracture. In some of these instances, removal may be covered by insurance. Your skilled LPS surgeon can help determine what’s right for you at the time of your in-person consultation.

What Results Will I See?*

Most women see visible results right away. Depending on the size of the implants being removed, it can take several months to upwards of a year to see an optimal outcome. Implants that are being replaced will provide instant results including better projection, fuller breasts, and enhanced contours. Implant removal is entirely customized according to your wishes. Your surgeon will discuss projected outcomes during your initial consult.

What is the Recovery Like?*

Recovery from breast implant removal is very similar to that of your initial surgery. You can expect about 1-2 weeks of downtime with restrictions on strenuous activities such as heavy lifting and exercise. Many women are able to return to their normal routines in about 2-4 weeks. However, it’s important to listen to your body during this time to minimize potential complications and stretching post-surgical scars.
