Do you fondly recall the day of a flat belly and perky breasts? You can have that pre-baby body back with a mommy makeover. This combination of procedures restores your more sculpted figure and shows a slim, toned figure after your baby is within reach. If you have considered a mommy makeover, we offer tips to help you prepare.

What is a Mommy Makeover?

Pregnancy causes a recognizable set of changes to a woman’s body. These changes typically involve the abdomen and breasts, although many women accumulate hard-to-lose fat while pregnant. A mommy makeover addresses these concerns, restoring your pre-baby shape and confidence. A mommy makeover combines several procedures in one surgery, saving you time and money over having them individually.

How to Prepare for a Mommy Makeover

A mommy makeover requires preparation to ensure your procedure and recovery go smoothly. We recommend that those planning a mommy makeover follow these tips:

Maintain a Healthy Lifestyle

You will see the most benefits from a mommy makeover if you are close to your goal weight but with areas of stubborn fat and sagging skin. Beginning a healthy lifestyle before your procedure and maintaining it afterward will help you enjoy the best results. As an added benefit, healthy and fit individuals are likely to recover more quickly.

Follow your Surgeon’s Instructions

Your Longwood Plastic Surgery team will give you instructions before your procedure. They may instruct you to change or stop taking some of your over-the-counter medications, supplements, or prescription medications. If you smoke, you will be required to stop since smoking increases risks during surgery and recovery.

Prepare for Your Recovery

You can expect to feel sore and spend a lot of time resting during the first few days after surgery. We recommend having someone stay with you for the first day or two to help with basic activities. You can prepare and freeze a week’s worth of meals, so you do not have to worry about cooking. We also recommend stocking up on comfortable, soft clothes with shirts that open in the front instead of pulling over the head.

What is Included in a Mommy Makeover?

A mommy makeover typically includes three core procedures. It uses a tummy tuck to address the abdomen, including sagging skin and separated abdominal muscles. It also includes breast enhancement to undo pregnancy-related volume loss or drooping. Liposuction provides body sculpting for pockets of stubborn fat. Other procedures you can have as part of a mommy makeover include:

  • Thigh lift
  • Arm lift
  • Labiaplasty
  • Fat transfer
  • Injectables
  • Microneedling
  • Chemical peel

Ask your LPS surgeon about any areas you want to treat. Your customized treatment plan can combine a variety of options to achieve the youthful, sculpted look you want.

Am I a Good Candidate for a Mommy Makeover?

Good candidates for a mommy makeover have no major health problems and reasonable expectations. Candidates for a mommy makeover should wait six months to a year after their last pregnancy before planning the procedure. If you plan to become pregnant in the future, you should be aware this will undo the effects of your mommy makeover.

Dr. Morris–I just wanted to thank you for the great job you did on my surgery. It was exactly what I wanted and they actually look better than I thought they would…I am lucky someone recommended your name to me and I will do the same.
