Are you frustrated with loss of facial volume or lines and wrinkles? Dermal fillers can treat a range of skin concerns, adding volume and definition for a smoother, more youthful look. While these injectable treatments have little to no downtime, how you sleep afterward has the potential to affect your results.Â
What are Dermal Fillers?
Dermal fillers are injectable materials that boost volume and add fullness to different areas of your facial features. This non-surgical treatment is a fast, low-risk way to enhance your features and look noticeably younger. Longwood Plastic Surgery we offer two types of fillers, Juvederm® and Sculptra®. These fillers use different materials, letting us offer a broader range of options.
What are Dermal Fillers Used For?
Your expert injector uses dermal fillers to smooth and sculpt your features. Popular options include:
- Cheek fillers
- Lip fillers
- Fine line fillers
- Deep wrinkle fillers (nasolabial folds and marionette lines)
You can have dermal fillers in more than one area during your session. Your injector will choose a filler designed to address your concerns. Fillers used for areas like the cheeks are denser and thicker than those used for areas like the lips that require flexibility and a smooth texture.Â
How to Sleep After Dermal Fillers
You can return to your usual activities immediately after your dermal filler injections. You may notice minor redness, swelling, or bruising that fades within a few days. While dermal fillers rarely move after injection, sleeping in certain positions could potentially cause the material to shift in the first few days after treatment.Â
How you sleep will not typically affect lip fillers or those used to treat lines and wrinkles. However, if you sleep with your cheek pressed into the pillow, you could possibly shift the filler. While this is uncommon, a few nights of sleeping on your back can provide you with peace of mind. Ask your injector if you have questions about sleeping after your treatment.
How Long Do Dermal Fillers Last?
How long your dermal filler lasts depends on the type of filler and area of the face. Juvederm® fillers vary, with lip fillers lasting up to a year and cheek fillers lasting up to two years. Sculptra® increases collagen production, offering results that can last three years or more. Sun protection and medical-grade skincare products can help your results last.Â
Am I a Good Candidate for Dermal Fillers?
Almost all healthy adults are good candidates for dermal fillers. Ideal candidates have reasonable expectations and want to enhance their facial features or look more youthful. You should not have dermal filler injections if you have an active skin condition or infection. Let your injector know if you have ever had a negative reaction to fillers.
