Treating skin concerns like pigmentation or textural issues can be challenging. The ideal treatment achieves your goals but fits your schedule and lifestyle. Customizable chemical peels can address a wide range of skin issues to meet your needs. Longwood Plastic Surgery offers several facial peels, letting us choose the best one for you.
What is a Chemical or Facial Peel?
Chemical peels are blends of chemicals that break up dull or damaged layers of skin. These skin-rejuvenating peels use ingredients like lactic, glycolic, salicylic, and trichloroacetic acids to sweep away skin concerns like hyperpigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles, or rough skin texture. These acids can be used in different balances to suit almost any skin type and concern.
How Often Should I Get a Chemical Peel?
How often you should get a chemical peel depends on several factors, including:
- The intensity of the peel
- The type of skin concerns being treated
- The recommended recovery time between different types of peels
- Your skin’s unique response to treatment
- How often treatment is needed to maintain your results
Chemical peels are classified by how deeply they act on the skin. Superficial peels work on the outer layers of skin, while deep peels are more intensive and can require considerable recovery time. Many light, minimal-downtime peels can be repeated as often as once a month. Other peels may be recommended every few months. Some peels are so intensive that you will only have them once.
What Can Chemical Peels Treat?
Longwood Plastic Surgery offers four types of chemical peels, allowing us to find one that meets your needs. Each chemical peel contains special ingredients to target different skin issues.
Sensi Peel®
This very gentle peel is safe for all skin types and tones, even deeply pigmented or sensitive skin. It excels at brightening, clarifying, and reducing signs of sun damage.
VI Peel
This highly customizable peel works more deeply to address hyperpigmentation, signs of aging, acne scarring, and many skin texture concerns.
Ultra Peel®
This powerful peel is ideal for mature skin. It leaves skin deeply hydrated, smoother, and more even-toned. It works beyond the outer layers of the skin for more dramatic results.
PCA Peel with HQ®
This peel inhibits pigment production, reduces acne and the resulting scars, smooths fine lines and wrinkles, and brightens skin tone.
Is There Any Downtime After a Chemical Peel?
The downtime after a chemical peel depends on the intensity and depth of the peel. Mild peels may require no downtime. Other peels can result in a few hours to days of redness and flakiness. The more intensive peels may result in several days of redness, sensitivity, and swelling. Your Longwood Plastic Surgery provider will let you know what to expect after your peel.
