Are you one of many men hiding their chests because of gynecomastia? Enlarged male breasts may make you feel self-conscious about your body. Gynecomastia surgery removes excess breast volume and sculpts a flatter, more masculine chest that restores your self-confidence. You no longer need to avoid the activities you enjoy because of gynecomastia.

What is Gynecomastia Surgery (Male Breast Reduction)?

Gynecomastia or enlarged male breasts can have many causes, including hormones, weight changes, medications, and genetics. This condition is especially common among young men going through puberty but can affect men of any age. Gynecomastia surgery removes excess fat and breast tissue to achieve a chest with more masculine contours.

How is Gynecomastia Surgery Performed?

The details of your gynecomastia surgery depend on whether your enlarged breasts contain mostly fatty tissue, mostly glandular breast tissue, or a combination of the two. Fatty tissue is usually removed with liposuction, while glandular tissue is removed using a small incision along the edge of the areola. If you have significant loose skin, your LPS surgeon may need to make a larger incision to tighten it.

How Long After Gynecomastia Surgery Can I Workout?

You can expect to feel some soreness and swelling after your surgery, especially during the first few days. A compression garment around your chest will support the area and help control swelling. Most people with low-activity jobs return to work within a week. You can resume many exercises after about two weeks, but heavy lifting or strenuous activity may be limited for up to four weeks.

What Results Will I See After Gynecomastia Surgery?

You will notice an immediate difference after your gynecomastia surgery. However, the area will be swollen, and your final results are not yet visible. Swelling can take several months to resolve completely, letting you appreciate the full benefits of your procedure. In most cases, any scars are nearly invisible.

While gynecomastia does not usually return, you can take a few steps to maintain your results. A healthy lifestyle will prevent weight gain that could cause more fatty tissue to deposit in your chest area. You can also talk to your doctor about any medical conditions or medications that increase your risk.

Am I a Good Candidate for Gynecomastia Surgery?

If you are frustrated with your gynecomastia, surgical treatment may be an ideal option. Good candidates for gynecomastia surgery are in good health and have reasonable expectations. Candidates should understand the risks and benefits of the procedure and what results they can expect.

If your enlarged male breasts have a medical or hormonal cause, you may benefit from treatment of the underlying conditions to achieve your best gynecomastia surgery results. You may not be a good candidate if you have certain health problems.

I was recommended to Dr. Morris through my doctor at BID-Needham. Due to prior surgeries, I had some issues and Dr. Morris is the best. He has done a fantastic job with my abdomen core and I feel and look fantastic.
