There’s nothing more frustrating than targeting specific areas of your body with exercise, putting in the work to eat right, and seeing no change to stubborn fat pockets that insist on clinging to your physique. Longwood Plastic Surgery has your solution with liposuction, and advanced techniques in recent years have improved outcomes for better results than ever before.

How Does Liposuction Work?

While individual patients will have very unique liposuction treatment plans, the general idea is the same. A small cannula is inserted through carefully placed incisions in the treatment area, and fat cells are removed through suction. The latest technologies allow your LPS surgeon greater control in body sculpting during liposuction, so now more than ever, you have the best chance of achieving your desired physique. It’s tailor-made to your anatomy and aesthetic goals.

Am I a Good Candidate for Liposuction?

If you’ve considered liposuction in the past, you may wonder if you’d even qualify for the treatment. Liposuction is not an ideal weight loss solution; it’s designed for people who are at or near their target weight and just can’t shift areas of particularly stubborn fat. The more elastic your skin, the better your results, as the skin will contour tighter over your treatment area. Non-smokers have an easier time healing, so if you smoke, you should consider quitting for weeks prior to your procedure. LPS can help you determine if your aesthetic goals can be achieved with liposuction.

What is the Procedure Like?

Most liposuction procedures with LPS are performed in our accredited surgical suite under general anesthesia on an outpatient basis. Your skin is marked to guide the surgeon on sculpting your new contours, and you’ll awaken wearing a compression garment to help maintain that careful remodeling. A loved one can drive you home the same day.

What is Recovery Like?

Every patient heals on their own terms, but some general rules of thumb apply. Getting mobile quickly will help circulation and reduce swelling. Get plenty of rest. The compression garment is recommended for at least 2-3 weeks. It’s normal to be tender and bruised. After about a week, you’ll begin to feel better, and most patients return to work a few days to 1 week post-op. Strenuous activity should be avoided for up to 3-4 weeks as you heal.

What Results Can I Expect?

Your body’s contours will feel noticeably different soon after your procedure, even with swelling and bandaging. It does, however, take time for swelling to subside and your tissues to fully settle. About 4-6 weeks after surgery, your physique will be visibly improved. Clothing will fit better, and you’ll likely experience a boost in self-esteem and confidence. Your body fat percentage has been reduced in the treatment area, so you’ll likely see more toning as you resume your exercise routines after a few weeks.

The biggest change will be in how you feel about your figure. You’ll likely feel better about how you look, which can improve not only your appearance but your mood, too. Liposuction itself won’t change how others see you, but the shift in positivity and emotional well-being may improve your outlook, which others will respond to. Keeping to a healthy lifestyle can help you maintain your results for years to come.

“Dear Dr. Morris, I truly cannot thank you enough, not only for your extreme generosity and waving my surgery fees, but for being able to fix something that has been such a huge insecurity of mine for the past 20+ years.  My note was a relatively involved/difficult surgery and I am so grateful to you for doing it for me.* “
