Procedure Headline

Rhinoplasty, or surgery to reshape, or sometimes repair, the nose, is commonly performed at Longwood Plastic Surgery. Nose surgery encompasses both aesthetic and reconstructive surgery. Aesthetic surgery is performed to reshape normal structures of the nose in order to improve the patient’s appearance and self-esteem. The best candidates for aesthetic rhinoplasty are people who are looking for improvement, not perfection, in the way they look. Reconstructive procedures are used to restore normal shape and function, for example, to correct birth defects or breathing problems.

Rhinoplasty can reduce or increase the size of your nose, change the shape of the tip or the bridge, narrow the span of the nostrils, or change the angle between your nose and your upper lip. It may also correct a birth defect or injury or help relieve some breathing problems or deformities that are acquired from trauma, for example. Good communication between you and your physician is essential. In your initial consultation, the surgeon will ask what you’d like your nose to look like, evaluate the structure of your nose and face, and discuss the possibilities with you. He or she will also explain the factors that can influence the procedure and the results.

Procedure Info

Most insurance policies don’t cover purely cosmetic or aesthetic surgery; however, if the procedure is performed for reconstructive purposes, to correct a breathing problem or a marked deformity, the procedure may be covered. Our team will work with your insurer to inquire about pre-authorization in select cases that are deemed reconstructive in nature.

If you’re considering rhinoplasty, for more information please schedule a consultation and visit our practice.
