LIPODYSTROPHY AT LONGWOOD PLASTIC SURGERY

Lipodystrophy is the abnormal metabolism, deposition and/or absence of fat within the body or face and it can be either congenital (present at birth) or acquired.

There are a wide variety of plastic surgery procedures, both aesthetic as well as reconstructive, that we practice at Longwood Plastic Surgery to address lipodystrophy. Many procedures that involve addressing acquired lipoatrophy (absence of fat) or lipomatosis (excess deposition of fat) in relation to anti-retroviral medications may be considered reconstructive in nature, and as such, covered by most health insurance policies, although coverage for specific procedures and levels of coverage may vary. Many of these procedures, including the initial evaluation, can be covered by your insurance carrier.

At Longwood Plastic Surgery, we specialize specifically in liposuction, excision or surgical removal of fat as well as fat injection or even office-based procedures, such as the use of facial filler like hyaluronic acid or poly-L-lactic acid (Sculptra®).
