If you’re in search of a non-surgical method for maintaining your youthful appearance, you’ve probably heard of Botox®. But what about JeuveauTM? Like Botox®, JeuveauTM is a neurotoxin that can restore volume loss associated with aging. JeuveauTM is FDA-approved for aesthetic purposes, becoming only the fourth FDA-approved botulinum toxin to enter the market since 1989.

JeuveauTM shares a lot in common with currently available wrinkle relaxers but differs in a few ways. Depending on your individual goals, you may be better suited for one treatment over another. The board-certified physicians at Longwood Plastic Surgery will help you determine which of our available “lunchtime facelifts” are right for you.

How Do Neurotoxins Work?

Neurotoxins can be injected between the eyebrows or at the corners of the eyes to stop the natural muscle contractions that form wrinkles. They slow down the process that makes creases form around the muscles in the face, essentially preventing new wrinkles from forming. This temporary paralysis of the muscles gives skin a smoother, more refreshed appearance.

How Does JeuveauTM Compare to Botox®?

JeuveauTM is extracted from the same purified bacteria as Botox®, which means the safety and efficacy of the toxin are already proven. One can be substituted for the other, and patients who have previously had Botox® injections can switch to JeuveauTM with no adverse effects. Both neurotoxins require injectors to complete certification before administering the product.

Injections are minimally invasive, require no downtime, and take less than 30 minutes, depending on your areas of treatment. Results from both are visible in about one week, and typically last up to 3-4 months. Side effects with each are usually mild and temporary.

How Does JeuveauTM Differ from Botox®?

The differences between JeuveauTM and the other three relaxers on the market are minimal. Some contain smaller molecules, which can be useful for treating larger areas. Others are better at addressing frown lines.

The botulinum in JeuveauTM is prepared using a unique purification process, which means better results may be possible for some patients than with Botox®. While both require special certification for injectors, JeuveauTM helps administrators get more comfortable with the injectable during training. Unlike Botox, JeuveauTM is approved strictly for cosmetic purposes only. Pricing for Jeauveau can be more flexible than Botox® due to this distinction.
